Applications Engineer, Automation Controls (Bethlehem, PA)

The Flexicon Corporation, a global leading bulk material handling system manufacturer, has an immediate entry level position opening for an energetic, detail-oriented individual to join our sales engineering team.  Responsibilities include system design and technical sales of automation controls to various industries, direct response to customer inquiries, and support of internal and field sales personnel.  Excellent written & verbal communication skills are essential.  Candidates must also have good mechanical aptitude in order to understand functionality of process equipment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide electrical technical support to internal teams such as general information on standard control panels features and functions
  • Develop quotations for custom control systems utilizing appropriate tools to formulate hardware cost and labor hours
  • Obtain pricing from vendors on special controls components where required
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of customer requirements for quotations
  • Support handover of quotation documentation to production team
  • Facilitate communication between the production team and customers or the sales team as needed during fabrication
  • Communicate directly with customers on basic technical inquiries via email or in meetings
  • Support of Flexicon Applications Engineers, Regional Sales Managers, and field sales representatives pertaining to the controls scope of supply
  • Serve as technical liaison between customers and Flexicon personnel when questions arise during all phases of a given project

Main Tasks

Elements of overall project management, including:

  • Serve as a resource to Flexicon Electrical Engineers during panel fabrication and programming phase of project
  • Obtain pricing on special controls components where required
  • Obtain all relevant information to allow Flexicon Design Engineering, Production and Electrical Engineering departments design and fabricate Flexicon control systems

 QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge 

  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Broad knowledge of control system platforms – Allen Bradley and Siemens is a plus
  • Experience with weighing systems is a plus

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously
  • Ability to compile, review and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness and compliance
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials
  • Knowledge and ability to use standard computer applications including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use CAD drawing software
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI Hardware is a plus (Allen Bradley)

Education and experience:

2-year Technical Degree or 4-year Engineering degree (Electrical preferred) from an accredited educational institute, and a minimum of 1-3 years sales experience with a technical background in the field of controls automation preferred.
