Flexicon is seeking to fill a Jr. Buyer position in Bethlehem, PA. Responsibilities include commodity management and procurement, vendor sourcing expertise, and application of cost-saving strategies.
The desired candidate is highly effective in communicating with people in purchasing and supply-chain management. Duties include monitoring of stock components in support of the manufacturing operation, proactively researching alternative vendors and making vendor recommendations to management, interpreting ERP-driven purchasing requirements, placement of purchase orders, and proactive review of commercial terms in order to optimize the company’s position.
The technical aspects of the role will include evaluating detailed elements of purchased components or machinery as well as interaction with engineers and other technical personnel. Accordingly, the Buyer must be able to understand engineered drawings and be comfortable evaluating vendor proposals from a technical standpoint. An in-depth understanding of the application of certain engineered components will be required since some purchased items will need to be customized according to the parameters of a specific project.
The Buyer will need to work well with a wide range of professionals within a team atmosphere. Problem solving and providing solutions to other Flexicon team members is a daily responsibility requiring organization and the ability to prioritize. - Knowledge of and experience with a variety of industrial products, their marketplaces and their procurement, such as:
- Steel – All forms and types such as sheet, structure, tubing, carbon steels, stainless steels
- Plastics – Extrusions and molded components
- Machined parts
- Electric motors (both NEMA and IEC), including enclosure ratings
- Gear reducers – parallel shaft, in-line, right angle
- Valves – Bulk material flow control, hydraulic, pneumatic
- Rubber materials / gaskets
- Fasteners (both imperial and metric)
- Electrical control components – Enclosures, contactors, inverters, programmable controls, variable frequency drives, load cells
- Thorough understanding of ERP systems (use of MICROSOFT AX a plus)
- Ability to manage multiple commodity groups and maintain competitive pricing reports
- Ability to interpret and understand technical specifications, design layouts, assembly drawings, and/or component part drawings
- Ability to work efficiently in a challenging and fast-paced environment
- Willingness to strive for continuous improvement in all supply chain activities
- Clear and precise communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- Knowledge of and experience with a variety of industrial products, their marketplaces and their procurement, such as:
Qualifications
- 4 years of prior experience within purchasing/supply-chain position or College degree in an applicable discipline
- Industrial or manufacturing experience highly preferred
Pay:
- $55,000.00 – $62,000.00 per year
